  1. Step 1: Hit the C button and select name of the item you wish to change the appearance for. The button will give you a list of options, select Change Appearance. Note: Not all items can have their appearance modified. Step 2: You have two options of dying your selected piece of gear.
  2. For what it is, the game is doing well, regardless of all the extortionate prices. Making it cost 1000 crowns to change your appearance a bit, or 3000 to change your race (which, conveniently, was added at the same time they changed around all the racial passives /tinfoilhat) just makes people hesitant to actually purchase them.

Styles are the appearance or look of the Weapons and Armor you are wearing in Elder Scrolls Online. Every Weapon and Armor has a Style and that defines how it will appear. It is purely cosmetic. Gear drops in all different Styles and you can craft Weapons and Armor in various styles.

In order for you to craft a Weapon or Armor in a certain Style you must find or purchase the matching Motif for that Style and read it and have one of the stones needed to make a piece of that type. Motifs are scattered in various containers through out Tamriel and it is more difficult to find some Motifs than others. There are currently far more Styles than Motifs, so it is not possible to craft all the Styles in the game. Below is a list of all the Styles with a couple of pieces of each so you can see what they look like (some Styles only have a couple pieces currently).

Please see Outfit System to understand how to make yourself look in a certain style without crafting it. Some styles are only available for the outfit station and not craftable.

How to find Motifs & Gems

Motifs and style gems are randomly found in containers (such as pots, night-stands, etc) throughout the world and by completing Daily and Weekly quests wihin the game. Below is a list of every obtainable Motif, along with those currently unavailble. Zenimax tends to tease a Style and then add it as craftable with a future update, so many of the uncraftable Styles are expected to become available at a later date.

Style Gems can also be obtained when deconstructing an item of the respective style. Or you may purchase the ten initial racial styles from vendors at crafting stations. You may also obtain gems via the hirelings of Blacksmithing, Clothing and Woodworking crafts, as well as from Daily and Weekly quests. You may like Light, Medium and Heavy Armor styles presented by Eso Fashion ( hourstv.com/eso-fashion-presents-armor-styles ).
